Full title: Opusculu[m] deSphæraclarissimi philosophi Ioannis de Sacro busto.Theoricæ planetaru[m] excellentissimi Astronomi Georgii Purbachii Magisteri Viennensis, quo Ioannes de Monte regio olim usus estpræceptore.Figvrae item summa diligentia suis ubiq locisappositæ, ex quibus pertacile autoris fensus utrobiq intelligi porest.

Written around 1230, the most famous astronomical work of Johannes de Sacrobosco (ca 1195-1256), an English astronomer and computationalist who taught at the University of Paris. One of the most influential works of pre-Copernican astronomy in Europe. This edition also added the workTheoriænovæ planetarum by Georg von Peurbach (1423-1461), an Austrian scholar, court astrologer to King Ladislaus V of Hungary and Bohemia and, after his death, to Emperor Frederick III .The two texts were widely printed together, serving for several hundred years as a textbook for students of astronomy.

Piece with rich provenance. On the first sheet the imprinted coat of arms stamp of Karol Milowicz h. Mikuliński (1792-1875), doctor of law and philosophy, Hrubieszow judge of the peace, heir to the Modryniec estate, where he created an impressive library. His collection was used, among others, by Kajetan Kraszewski (1827-1896), brother of Jozef Ignacy, a literary man, musician and astronomer, who often received gifts from the Milowicz family in the form of books in fields that interested him. Most likely, this is how the present astronomical work came to him, which he then offered, inscribing a dedication on the first page, to Jan Baranowski (1800-1879), an astronomer and naturalist who served as director of the Warsaw Astronomical Observatory in 1848-1869:"To His Lordship J. Baranowski Dyr. Obs. Astr. Warszawsk. in token of the highest respect, (...) K. Kraszewski."
