"The present work seeks to establish concrete data to confirm the thesis that the plan of the city of Danzig was not created from a single projection, i.e. on the so-called raw root, and thus was not imposed by the Teutonic Knights in the 14th century, but grew over long periods of time and before 1308, after numerous transformations, had already assumed the full forms of a port city with a completely peculiar character, which is so prominently marked in the layout of the Main City. This goal can be achieved by carefully analyzing the plan of Danzig, determining from the deformation of street sequences and the distribution of building plots the order in which the various districts of the city grew, and then the nature of the transformations that these districts underwent in the course of history."
