Warsaw. (PIW?). 27.5x36 cm, pp (32), 17 color original illustrations, hard cloth binding, unsigned design by Jan Samuel Miklaszewski. Good condition (minor rubbing of the binding).
Prepared by Jan Samuel Miklaszewski, two graphic elaborations of Władysław Broniewski's poem The Paris Commune. The first version consists of a book binding prepared by the artist himself, and nine illustrations in 14x18 cm format and small graphic interludes. The second version has a prepared title page and eight illustrations in 11x16 cm format.
The National Library does not list an edition of the Paris Commune with illustrations by Jan Samuel Miklaszewski (1907-1982), graphic artist, illustrator, head of the art studio of the Czytelnik publishing house, and associate of the Art and Film Publishers. In 1951, the artist designed the cover for the book Poems on the Commune, published on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Paris Commune . On the Eightieth Anniversary of the Paris Commune (PIW 1951).
The works on offer are most likely unused or rejected graphic designs by the State Publishing Institute, prepared for the publication of Broniewski's book to mark the 100th anniversary of the Paris Commune. In 1971 the book was published by PIW, but with illustrations by another great master of illustration, Janusz Stanny.
