One of the most important publications of Jędrzej Giertych, a leading political writer of the national movement, whom Dmowski himself considered the best of his disciples. The book resonated with Polish historians and politicians, not least because Giertych subjected Pilsudski's policies, both during World War I and during the Second Republic, to devastating criticism. As a result of the harsh censorship that prevailed in Poland at the time, then-Prime Minister Slawoj Składkowski himself ordered the confiscation of the book. The police managed to confiscate 3,000 pieces, a few hundred survived, but they too were out of luck, as during the occupation the German authorities placed Tragism.... on the list of banned books.
