This volume of source materials for the history of the visual arts in Warsaw in the first half of the nineteenth century includes: a reissue of the catalogs of nine major artistic public exhibitions in 1819-1845, reproductions of some of the works of art exhibited at that time, and the aftermath that these exhibitions left in the press and contemporary periodicals. The material on each exhibition is compiled separately; the text consists of nine main chapters related to the exhibitions in the years: 1819, 1821, 1823, 1825, 1828, 1836, 1838, 1841 and 1845. Each of the nine essential chapters consists of brief introductory data about the exhibition, a bibliography and the full text of the catalog compiled according to the most extensive editions, supplemented by additional items. At the end of the volume are included, in the order of the relevant exhibitions, reproductions of the more important works exhibited in a given year, which have been found in the originals of public and private collections or in illustrations. From the aftermath of the exhibitions in the daily press and magazines - which closes each chapter - the more important mentions, most of the reports and almost all the reviews are reprinted in full or in excerpts. A list of awards, a list of works exhibited by artists' names and an index, placed at the end of the volume, facilitate the use of the collected source material.
