Warsaw [1939]. J. Przeworski Publishing House. 17.5x21 cm, pp (70), black and white illustrations in the text, publisher's hardcover. Good condition (cover and boards after professional restoration, single delicate soiling).
First Polish edition. Translated by Irena Tuwim. Illustrations by Robert Lawson. First published in 1936, one of the most famous fairy tales, which became a bestseller in the American publishing market in 1938. Due to its plot telling the story of a peaceful bull unwilling to participate in the corridor, where he ended up against his will, the fable was perceived as a pacifist and anarchist work. Its publication coincided with the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, causing Franco to consider it critical of his actions and ban its publication for many years. For similar reasons, the fable was banned from publication in the Third Reich.
