"In August 1932 the Olympic Games were held in Los Angeles, on the Pacific coast, in which a Polish sports expedition took part. I managed to accompany this expedition as a journalist. I told myself in advance that sports would exist for me only in Los Angeles and only in the dimension, necessary from the point of view of my professional activities as an Olympic journalist. The great margin, free from these activities, I wanted to fill as intensely as possible with observations, focused on the manifestations of the collective life of the American community. (...) Out of these observations, impressions and reflections came the columns, printed in the weekly "Modern Woman." Published as a whole - they constitute a set of reflections on topics of particular interest today because of the prevailing crisis of the system, which has found its fullest and most perfect expression precisely in the United States, alternatively called by the internationally accepted acronym 'America'."
