First edition. Translated and prefaced by Stanislaw Janiszewski. An account by Norwegian oceanographer and explorer Fridtjof Nansen (1861-1930) of his expedition to the Arctic Ocean, carried out in 1893-1896 on a specially designed ship "Fram" (Norwegian for "forward"). During the voyage, Nansen conducted numerous surveys of the ocean, reaching a distance of 300 km from the North Pole.
