"Within the borders of today's Ukraine, we wish to consider the ways in which the influence of the Old World culture could have affected the territory we call Kievan Rus, and therefore the people living there. This was, first of all, the influence of Ancient Greek culture through the colonies on the Euxine Pont [Black Sea], and later of Byzantine culture, then of Latin culture and finally of Arab culture, or more precisely, of Arab-Eastern culture. This influence manifested itself in various ways: in the field of art (artistic products), military (various types of weapons) and finally in the field of domestic industry." [excerpt]
