Berlin 1928 by Z. Kaganski (З. Кагански). 13.5x18 cm, pp. 299, softcover. Good condition (scuffs and dings on the cover, minor paper loss and glue marks on the spine, delicate trace of dampstain at the edges of the last dozen or so pages, single small tears).
First edition of Remarque's In the West Unchanged. This novel began publication in November 1928 in a Berlin magazine. However, the first book edition was not in the original language, but a translation of the novel into Russian, published at the end of 1928 by Zachar Kaganskiy in Berlin (where ,after the October Revolution moved many Russian publishers). Thus, the translation came before the book version of the original, which was not published until the following year, on January 29, 1929.
