Warsaw 1932, Military Historical Office. Studies in the World War 1914-1918, vol. IV. 18x25 cm, pp. X, 341, XVII, black and white sketches in the text, linen bookbinding with pocket for 20 fold-out appendices, publisher's soft cover preserved. Good condition (minor rust spots on cover).

"(...) the actions of the 2nd and 3rd Austrian armies during August 1914 in the entire area east of Lviv. This area, which I refer to by the term "Eastern Lesser Poland," includes today's Stanislawow and Ternopil provinces and part of Lwow, up to the Rawa Ruska - Sadovaya Vishnia - Sambor line and the former Bukovina, which now belongs to Romania. This is where the two sides will meet in two consecutive clashes over Zolota and Gnila Lipa. (...) The purpose of the work is to consider these operations essentially from the point of view of the Austrian command. This is, in fact, imposed by the materials being disposed of. The Russian side is presented in general terms; the guideline here was only to strive to emphasize Austrian operations." [excerpt].

Abbreviated table of contents: Operational plans. The outbreak of war. Further development of operational plans. Area of operations in the battle of Lviv. Covering the Austrian mobilization. First concentration grouping of forces of both sides. Long-distance cavalry reconnaissance. New grouping at Lviv. First use of the eastern group. Turning to the east. Final preparations for the battle. Battle of Zolota Lipa. Battle of the Rotten Linden River. Defensive grouping near Lviv. Retreat behind Vereszyca.
